Who you will meet when you call or arrive:
The Rev. Anne O. Weatherholt, Rector
Anne (or you can call her Mrs. Weatherholt -- or "Miss Amen," as some of the kids do!), began her ministry at St. Mark's in November of 1993. Her chief concern is the spiritual health of the St. Mark's members. In addition to preparing for Sunday worship, she visits with members when they are ill, directs the programs of the parish, lends a listening ear and enjoys responding to questions. Before coming to St. Mark's, she was Chaplain at Hood College, Frederick, Maryland (1979-1983) and an Assisting Priest at All Saint's Episcopal Church, Frederick (1983-1993). Anne graduated from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota and the Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria, Virginia. She was ordained to the priesthood February 3, 1980, and is the fourth priest in five generations in her family. She lives in Hancock, Maryland (just west of Hagerstown) with her husband, The Reverend Allan Weatherholt, Rector of St. Thomas' Parish, Hancock. Their family includes an older son, Daniel, and his wife, Katie, and a younger son, Stephen. Click here to email her.
Anne is a published author...
Anne+ is a published author and contributes regularly to a local newspaper column, as well as writing for various Church publications. She is the author of "Breaking the Silence, the Church responds to Domestic Violence." (2008). Copies of this resource for clergy, lay leaders and churches are available from Amazon or Cokesbury Publishing.
Anne's writings are also featured in "Wisdom Found, Stories of Women Transfigured by Faith." (Forward Movement, 2011)

She prepares the Sunday service booklet, edits the Epistle (our newsletter), keeps the master calendar, welcomes visitors at the Church office and helps keep everything running smoothy. Feel free to call her or click here to e-mail her.
Daniel O. Weatherholt,
Organist and Choirmaster
Daniel has served as the Organist and Choirmaster at St. Mark's since 2008. Daniel has been involved in church music since he was a child and feels that this is a calling from God. He seeks to help others see and experience God through music and desires to bring God's word to life through his hymn playing, organ improvisations and registrations, and selection of choir anthems. Daniel graduated from Frostburg State Univeristy in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Organ Performance. While a student at Frostburg State, he studied organ with Dr. Joan DeVee Dixon and studied voice and conducting with Dr. Karen Soderberg-Sarnaker. Prior to his arrival at St. Mark's, Daniel held positions as Assistant Organist at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, Hancock, Maryland (1997-2006), Associate Organist at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Hancock, Maryland (2004-2008), and Organist and Choirmaster at St. John's Episcopal Church in Frostburg, Maryland and St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Lonaconing, Maryland (2006-2008). After his graduation from Frostburg State and relocating to Washington County, Daniel took this unique opportunity to share ministry here at St. Mark’s with his mother, the Rev. Anne Weatherholt. Daniel is a member of the American Guild of Organists, an affiliate of the Royal School of Church Music in America, and a member of the Commission on Ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland. He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Music Education from Mount St. Mary's University. Daniel and his wife Katie reside in Hagerstown. Click here to email him.
Mrs. Angie Sievers,
Coordinator for Christian Education
Angie coordinates the Children and Youth programs for St. Mark's and teaches part-time at Hagerstown Community College. Her volunteer ministry at St. Mark's includes serving on many key committees, serving as director for the Junior Daughters of the King, and assisting many other volunteers to live out their faith in service and support. She will help you find your child's classroom and keep you informed of the activities that help all our children grow in the grace and love of God. Angie's husband and their two daughters are all involved at St. Mark's!
The Rev. John Cozzoli, Deacon
Deacon John assists the Rector on various Sundays in addition to his part-time job at Homewood Retirement Center in nearby Williamsport.
John was ordained Deacon in 1989 and has served Churches in Frederick and Washington Counties before coming to St. Mark's in 1999. His "previous life" involved serving in the United States Air Force, working as a radio Announcer (which gives him his lovely resonant voice), and 33 years working at Mack Trucks in Hagerstown. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Ruth, his family, and six grandchildren!

Leadership at St. Mark's...
A Church is only as strong as the members, and St. Mark's has a remarkably high number of volunteers who serve in leadership positions. Names of Vestry members and coordinators for groups and committees are found on the back page of the E-pistle and often show up in the Sunday Service booklet. Many opportunities exist to become involved in the Church, and there is no "waiting period" before you can join the Choir, Altar Guild, become a Lector, join a fellowship group. See our Groups and Ministries page for more!
A Short History of St. Mark's
St. Mark's is an Episcopal Church and part of the 85-million member worldwide Anglican Communion. Our congregation has been proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ at Lappans Crossroads for over 160 years. St. Mark’s was founded in 1849 by the students and faculty of nearby St. James School, and continues today as a Church that is interested in teaching, evangelism and youth. The McKinley Center, built in the late 1800's as a home for the Rector, now houses the Church offices. The Parish House, added to the campus in 1955, provides space for fellowship, learning and community outreach. The Fellowship Center, built in 2011, provides a fully accessible, multipurpose space for worship and education and is available to groups for conferences, meetings and retreats.
St. Mark's Cemetery
Members of St. Mark's may purchase cemetery plots for themselves or members of their family. The Churchyard surrounding the Church is closed to new burials. The "new" section, enclosed by the iron fence, has plenty of plots left for burial of caskets or cremains. Complete information about purchase, use, and perpetual care is available from the Church office. If you are researching your family genealogy, you may contact the Church office, 301.582.0417, for information about burial records.
