Music at St. Mark's
Music is an integral part of worship and community at St. Mark's as we seek to offer praise and adoration to God and to bring the Word to life through song. We strive to nurture the talents of those in our congregation as well as to provide opportunities for growth and learning. Our worship services feature a wide variety of music ranging from classical hymns true to the Anglican tradition, to contemporary music. Our music ministry is affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music as we seek to emphasize the importance of quality music and the education of music within our parish and the surrounding community. With a vibrant singing congregation accompanied by our 1927 M.P. Moller Pipe Organ, and three choirs open to persons of all ages, there are many opportunities for involvement!
The St. Mark's Parish Choir
Meet the Choir - a group of dedicated volunteers who meet weekly to rehearse and sing at the 11 AM services September - May. The Parish Choir sings a wide variety of Anthems from some of the great classics to selections from 20th century composers. The choir sings Choral Evensong twice a year and has been sought after to sing for special events outside of the walls of our church such as weddings and ordinations in neighboring Episcopal Churches. Our diverse membership consists of individuals with extensive backgrounds in music to those who are new to singing and who seek a deeper knowledge of music. ALL are welcome! Previous choral experience is not required. Choir rehearsal is held on Wednesday Evenings from 7:30 PM to 8:45 PM in the church and on Sunday mornings at 10:15 in the church. St. Mark's Youth Choir
"Miss Gerrie" (you see her in the front row on the right--she is as short as some of the kids!), meets with our youth on a regular basis after Sunday School. They sing anthems once a month at the 9 AM service, they for special days such as Christmas and Easter, and they join the Parish Choir for Choral Evensong each spring. Here, they are outside at the groundbreaking ceremony for our Fellowship Center. You can see by their faces how much they love to sing!
St. Mark's Folk/Contemporary Choir
A group of singers and musicians who love to make music for God. They lead the music at the 9 AM service on the second and fourth Sundays of each month, using old favorites and new contemporary Christian classics. Rehearsals are on Sundays at 8:15 AM in the McKinley Center next to the Church just before the service.
